Ford Explorer Buying Guide

The all-new Ford Explorer has been given a complete makeover with a host of design, tech, safety and power features that have made the Ford Explorer, the SUV to be desired – despite the increased price tag. Since many may not realize the extent of the redesign just by looking at the photos of the new Explorer, here are the 2020 Explorer’s upgrades in a nutshell:
Capability and Power
The 2020 Ford Explorer comes in a range of trims including the base, XLT, Limited, Limited Hybrid, Platinum and ST options, with the newest versions being the Hybrid and the ST. The most powerful trim is the performance-based ST model, which boasts a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine with twin turbos that deliver 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft of torque. The ST comes with an all-new rear-wheel-drive system that’s the same as that of the Lincoln Aviator. There is also the option to get the ST with Ford’s Intelligent 4WD also which offers a terrain management system covering six different modes (normal road, deep snow, sand, sport, slippery, trail and tow modes).
Interior and Technology
The ST interior has also been revamped with the 2020 models. With captain seats replacing the bench in the second row, “roomy” is definitely the word to describe the six- or seven-passenger trims. City Silver stitching is on the leather seats with micro-perforation, upper door, steering wheel and dash trim. The faux wood trim has been replaced by faux carbon fiber trimming on the dash. All the features of the platinum model are present in the ST which includes the 12.3-inch completely digital dash, one-touch entry, power folding seats for the third row and more. There is tri-zone electronic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient lighting, heated steering wheel, forward and reverse sensing system and even the optional twin panel moonroof that’s accessible to the first and second rows.
Safety and Security
Ford’s safety system or driver-assistance suite is called the Ford Co-pilot 360, which includes forward-collision warning, auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot alert, cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, Roll Stability Control, Safety Canopy System, LATCH tethers and anchors, eight airbags and more. In addition, there are security features that include remote keyless entry, a battery saver-function, perimeter alarm, SecuriLock (a passive anti-theft system) and SecuriCode (the keyless entry keypad) and individual tire pressure monitoring system, all of which ensure that the car and driver are safe at all times.
The 2020 Explorer has more than made up for the areas in which previous models may have lacked and has placed the Explorer as one of the top contenders in its segment. So, if you’re looking for that powerful, yet fun and safe SUV, the 2020 Ford Explorer is the one for you.
