How to do your Part to Support Environmental Protection

As individuals, we have a duty towards the environment. The concern for saving the planet is at an all-time high. With proper responsibility, we would be able to do our part and combat the pollution as much as possible. It might seem impossible, but these individual efforts provide an overall value to the environment. We can do a lot of things to support the environment. No matter what eco-friendly action you take, be it small or big, is impactful to nature.

Donate:

We all have stuff in our household that we don’t need for us anymore. Instead of just throwing them away, you can donate them to local charities and non-governmental organizations to support those in need. Contact the local charities, ask them if they take gently used items. Some charities even pick them up from homes. You can donate clothes, furniture, and other reusable things to them.

Optimize your Recycling Habits:

In the United States of American alone, around 4.4 pounds of trash are generated per person in a single day. The United States is known to be producing the most amount of wastes in the world. Among that, only a mere 1.5 pounds of materials per person are recycled. To help the environment, it is important to optimize our recycling skills. Be it reusing stuff or re-purposing things, recycling is a very powerful option. You can also locate nearby recycling centers and dispose of the old items in your house. When each member of a family does their part in recycling, they are helping the earth a lot. Inculcate the habit in the younger generations of the family. Show them examples and reasons as to why it is important, and they would be able to contribute to the process too.

Plant Trees:

This is one of the cost-effective ways to help the environment. Planting trees is an excellent way to become greener. Plant trees in your backyard or even on public property if it is allowed. If you have extra space in the lawn or garden, grow some fruits and vegetables. By doing so, you are helping your local ecosystem by engaging in it. Trees and plants are great saviors of the planet. The more people involved in afforestation, the more effective it is.

Make your Home More Energy Efficient:

Charity begins at home. It is important to look inwards before venturing out. Having an energy-efficient home would enable you to perform simple actions to save the environment. The price tag might make you do a double-check. However, in the long run, it would save you a lot of money. Buy the latest technology washers and other machines to have an efficient energy output.

Use Private Transportation Less:

Instead of using private transportation like cars, you can also walk or bike to the nearest destinations. If you are going somewhere further, you can always use public transportation like buses or carpool apps like Uber or Lyft. Using fewer individual transportation would limit your carbon footprint and save the environment in the long run.

Stop Single-Use Plastics:

Reduce the usage of one-time plastics like plastic utensils, straws, water bottles, and bags. Use reusable items. According to a study by Columbia University’s Earth Institute, around 8 million metric tons of plastics are disposed of in the oceans every year.
