What You Need

Before getting started, let’s take a look at the things you will need to carve your pumpkin.

  • Medium-sized pumpkin
  • Sharpie or permanent marker for drawing
  • A pumpkin carving kit t
  • Two medium-sized bowls
  • Kitchen towel
  • Tea light candle

Carving the Perfect Pumpkin

Now that you have understood all the essential items you need, you can simply follow the below steps to carve the perfect pumpkin.

Location, Location, Location!

Before you begin carving, you will need to pick a location from which to work. It would be best if you choose an outdoor place to reduce the mess in your house. Remember to lay out butcher paper or newspaper around your workspace to make cleanup easier down the road.

Design Your Pumpkin

Take out your permanent marker and draw your design on the pumpkin. Carefully draw the eyes, nose, and toothy grin. Don’t forget to draw the lid, which should be around 5-6 inches in diameter around the stem.

Carve Your Creation

Follow the lines that you have drawn on the pumpkin and slowly carve it out using the knife. Cut the lid as well to create the perfect opening to place the light. Make sure you cut at a 45 degree inward angle to prevent the lid from falling into the pumpkin.

Scoop the Seeds

Remove the seeds and scrape out the insides of the pumpkin to give it a clean finish. You do not have to waste the seeds, simply toss them in oil with your favorite seasoning, roast them at 300℉ at 45 minutes or until golden brown, then enjoy.

Clean Your Canvas

When you are scraping out the pumpkin, the outside can also get a little messy. Take your kitchen towel and wipe off the outside and prepare for the next step.

Finishing Touches

After cleaning the pumpkin, you need to work on the details to make it look more appealing. You need to use an X-ACTO knife for this to smooth out the rough edges.

Shine On

The final step is to light up your pumpkin with the help of tea candlelight. Place your candle at the bottom of the pumpkin and light it up to see the magic.

Voila! Your jack-o-lantern is ready to add to your Halloween decorations. Happy Halloween!
