The 2020 Ford Bronco: Everything You Should Know About the New SUV

The Ford Bronco was a rugged SUV manufactured by Ford from the 1960s to 1990s. The company discontinued the model after the demand for three-door SUVs dropped, and the Bronco was replaced by the Ford Expedition. However, after a 24-year hiatus, Ford is bringing the Bronco back in 2020! Here’s everything we know about the new SUV.

Variants

Though the company has ruled out the three-door SUV (two side doors and a rear door), there are chances Ford might introduce a smaller version of the new SUV in the form of the Bronco Sport. There are rumors about the company thinking of introducing a pickup variant as well to compete with the Jeep Gladiator.

Design

Ford organized a press event where the 2020 Ford Bronco was presented covered in a sheet. The company has also shown the Ford Bronco to its dealers but nothing has leaked from these events. If you look at the picture of the 2020 Ford Bronco covered under a sheet, you can see the new SUV has a blocky design with a tapered roof. The spare wheel is fitted on the rear side as you would see on a Jeep Wrangler. The company is expected to take into account the popularity of vintage designs while creating the new SUV.

Potential Release

At the 2017 Detroit Auto show, Ford had announced the Bronco would be introduced in 2020. Though the company has not given any further details, the new SUV is expected to arrive in spring 2020. The company might introduce the 2020 Bronco at the New York Auto show in April 2020 or you could see Ford organizing a standalone event for its official launch.

Powertrain and Drivetrain

The Bronco is more likely to share the powertrain of the Ford Ranger. The new SUV could be powered by a 2.3-liter, turbocharged inline-four engine making 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. The higher variant may get a V8 engine delivering an excess of 325 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. According to experts, the company may also drop a diesel engine in the 2020 Bronco. The Bronco could get a seven-speed manual transmission while the higher variants may get a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Features and Technology

One of the potential features of 2020 Bronco would be a removable rood and removable doors. The company has filed multiple patents that hint at removable doors for the Bronco. According to a news leak, the model shown to the Ford dealers had removable doors and a removable roof, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

To mirror the competitors in the SUV category, the Ford Bronco is more likely to have solid axles in the front and rear. This will give a major boost to its ruggedness and also put the Bronco in direct competition with Jeep Wrangler. For entertainment, the Bronco is expected to have Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system which includes support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The company has remained tight-lipped about detailed specifications of the SUV, raising excitement among buyers. It’s only a matter of time until the company unveils the 2020 Ford Bronco and you will come to know what the new SUV is actually is.
