Check the Battery

The battery is an important component of your car’s electrical system. As your battery gets older, it loses the ability to hold a charge. You need to check the battery condition and look for any signs of corrosion or loose joints. Get all battery problems fixed by a professional.

Check Wiper Blades

Wiper blades keep your windshield clear which is necessary for good visibility. However, when the rubber squeegee dries, the wiper blades harden and develop cracks. The result is that the wiper blades do not clean the windshield effectively. Check the wiper blades for any cracks and see if they clean the windshield properly. If not, be sure to get them replaced.

Inspect Fluid Levels

Your car has several fluids and you need to maintain the recommended levels of all fluids to protect your car’s engine and other systems from damage. First, you need to check the level of the engine oil to ensure the level of oil is between the minimum and maximum level. You need to also check the brake fluid, radiator coolant and transmission fluid levels to make sure they are all at recommended levels.

Check Tire Condition

If the tread is not deep enough, your car is more likely to skid in wet road conditions. According to experts, the tread depth should be more than 2/32 of an inch. If the tread depth is 1/8 of an inch or less, you need to replace the tires. Similarly, you need to check the tires for any bald spots or bulges. Lastly, always maintain the recommended air pressure in all tires. During the fall season, the air pressure in tires reduces as the temperature drops.

Check the Heater and Defroster

During the fall season, the temperature drops and you need to ensure the heating system is working properly. This is necessary from a safety and comfort aspect of the passengers inside the car. The defroster works to clear the frost and mist that gathers on the windshield. A clear windshield is extremely important for safe driving. You need to ensure the defrosters at the front and rear are working properly.

Check Headlights

In the fall season, you will need your lights more often than in the summer as it gets dark earlier. You need to ensure the headlights, brake lights, tail lights and fog lights are working properly. Also, the headlamp covers should be clear to get a brighter beam from the headlamps.
